    The right alloy.
    The right specification.

Nitronic 60 (UNS S21800) is a nitrogen-strengthened austenitic stainless steel with elevated silicon and manganese additions. It is recognised for resistance to galling and wear in selected metal-to-metal contact applications.

Anti-galling does not mean galling-proof. Contact load, mating alloy, surface finish, lubrication and assembly practice still matter. EMG reviews specified Nitronic 60 fasteners and machined parts as an engineered assembly requirement, not a blanket replacement for conventional stainless.

    What to specify

    Nitronic 60 / Alloy 218

    S21800

Anti-galling austenitic stainless for selected threaded, sliding and wear-contact parts.

    RFQ CHECK

Specify product form, material condition, required properties and the mating material.

Reference designations are not stock, certified equivalence or guaranteed service suitability. Final product requirements govern every quotation.

    WHERE THE SPECIFICATION MATTERS

    Engineered around the application

Socket head cap screws illustrating threaded-component applications

    Threaded assemblies

Specified bolts, nuts and threaded components subject to repeated assembly or stainless-on-stainless contact.

Duplex machined valve body illustrating valve-component geometry, not the featured alloy

    Valve trim & stems

Sliding-contact parts where galling resistance is an explicit design requirement.

    ENGINEERING CHECKPOINTS

    Control the details that matter.

    01

    Galling is an assembly problem

Review thread engagement, surface finish, contact stress, lubrication and installation practice alongside the material. No alloy eliminates every seizure mechanism.

    02

Do not confuse 50 and 60

Nitronic 50 and Nitronic 60 are different alloys with different UNS identifiers and performance priorities. A brand-family name is not sufficient for a purchase order.

    03

    Corrosion needs its own check

Wear resistance does not establish suitability for seawater, concentrated chemicals or sour service. Confirm the actual exposure and acceptance requirements.
