    INDUSTRY FOCUS

Fasteners for Industrial Manufacturing & Process Plants

Corrosion-resistant fasteners for chemical processing, petrochemical plants, and industrial manufacturing. Specialty alloys for aggressive and high-temperature environments.

    OVERVIEW

Specialty Bolting for Demanding Process Environments

Chemical and petrochemical processing plants expose fasteners to aggressive chemicals, elevated temperatures, and corrosive atmospheres that rapidly degrade standard materials. Long-term reliability demands specialty alloys and corrosion-resistant grades with proven performance in these environments.

We supply stainless steel, Duplex, Super Duplex, and nickel alloy fasteners for process industries including chemical manufacturing, petrochemical refining, fertilizer production, and water treatment. Our materials are selected for specific corrosion resistance, temperature capability, and NACE compliance where required.

Every fastener comes with full material certification, traceability, and documentation to support your plant's quality and compliance requirements.

EMG supplies NACE MR0175-compliant fasteners in Duplex, Super Duplex, Inconel, Hastelloy, and Alloy 20 for chemical plants and petrochemical facilities operating in sour, acidic, and high-chloride environments.

    Where Our Fasteners Are Installed

A closer look at the key sectors within industrial manufacturing & process plants where our fasteners play a critical role in equipment integrity and safety.

    Chemical & Petrochemical Processing

Chemical plants handle aggressive acids, caustics, and mixed chemical environments that attack standard materials. Fasteners must be selected for specific corrosion mechanisms including pitting, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking.

    Key Equipment
    • Chemical reactors and autoclaves
    • Distillation and absorption columns
    • Heat exchangers and reboilers
    • Storage tanks and process vessels
    • Piping manifolds and valve stations

    Water Treatment & Desalination

Water and wastewater facilities require fasteners that resist chlorinated environments, biological fouling, and chemical dosing agents. Duplex and stainless steel grades provide the corrosion resistance needed for long service intervals in wet, aggressive conditions.

    Key Equipment
    • Membrane filtration systems
    • Clarifiers and settling tanks
    • UV and ozone treatment systems
    • Chemical dosing and mixing equipment
    • Sludge handling and dewatering presses

    General Industrial & Manufacturing

Pulp and paper mills, food processing plants, fertiliser production, and general manufacturing require reliable fasteners that perform across a range of temperatures, pressures, and chemical exposures specific to each industry's operating environment.

    Key Equipment
    • Pulp digesters and paper machines
    • Fertiliser reactors and granulators
    • Food and beverage processing lines
    • Pharmaceutical and clean room equipment
    • Compressed air and utility systems

    FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

    Technical FAQs

What fastener materials resist strong acids like hydrochloric and sulfuric acid?

    +
Hastelloy C-276 provides excellent resistance to hydrochloric acid at all concentrations and temperatures. For sulfuric acid, Alloy 20 and Hastelloy B2 are commonly specified. Monel 400 resists hydrofluoric acid. Material selection depends on the specific acid type, concentration, temperature, and whether mixed acids or contaminants are present.

What is the difference between Duplex and Super Duplex fasteners?

    +
Duplex 2205 (UNS S31803) has a minimum PREN of 34 and provides good chloride corrosion resistance. Super Duplex 2507 (UNS S32750) has a PREN above 40, offering significantly higher resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in seawater and high-chloride process environments. Super Duplex also provides higher strength (minimum yield 550 MPa vs 450 MPa for Duplex).

Are NACE MR0175 compliant fasteners always required for process plants?

    +
NACE MR0175 (ISO 15156) compliance is required when process fluids contain hydrogen sulfide (H₂S) — commonly called sour service. This includes oil refinery applications, sour gas processing, and certain chemical plant environments. The standard restricts material hardness and heat treatment conditions to prevent sulfide stress cracking.

Can you supply PTFE-coated stainless steel fasteners?

    +
Yes. PTFE/Xylan fluoropolymer coatings are commonly applied to stainless steel stud bolts and nuts to prevent galling during assembly and provide additional corrosion protection. The coating reduces the coefficient of friction, enabling more accurate torque-tension control during bolt tightening, which is critical for flanged joint integrity.
