    FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

    Technical FAQs

What is the difference between butt weld and forged fittings?

    +
Butt weld fittings are wrought from pipe or plate and welded directly into the pipe run for permanent, full-bore connections — typically used 2 inch and above. Forged fittings are machined from solid forgings and use socket weld or threaded ends, generally for small-bore (≤ 4 inch) high-pressure service in classes 3000/6000/9000 lb.

Can fittings be matched to pipe by heat number?

    +
Yes. EMG can supply fittings cross-referenced to the same heat or production lot as the parent pipe where required, with consolidated MTRs in a single documentation pack.

    Do you stock NORSOK-qualified fittings?

    +
Yes — Duplex, Super Duplex, 6Mo and Nickel Alloy fittings are supplied from NORSOK M-650 qualified manufacturers with full QTRs and Material Data Sheets (MDS).

What pressure classes are available for forged fittings?

    +
Standard forged fittings are supplied in 3,000, 6,000 and 9,000 lb classes per ASME B16.11, with sizes from 1/4 inch up to 4 inch in socket weld and threaded (NPT) configurations.
