Duplex 2205 vs super duplex 2507

Duplex 2205, super duplex 2507 and S32760 are not interchangeable fastener grades. Super duplex offers a more highly alloyed material system, but the selection still depends on the actual exposure, mechanical requirements, processing route and approved design.

    ENGINEERING BEFORE SUBSTITUTION

    Beyond the grade name.

A comparison helps frame the enquiry. The responsible engineer approves the material, condition and finished assembly.

When is super duplex worth considering?

Where the designer identifies a more demanding chloride exposure, super duplex may be part of the material review. Avoid selecting from a family label or a single corrosion index: fluid chemistry, crevices, loading, manufacturing condition and inspection all matter.

Seawater, offshore location or sour gas alone does not determine a universally acceptable grade. State the project’s service and qualification requirements before seeking a quote.

    S32750 is not S32760

2507 denotes S32750; S32760 is a separate designation. Do not treat F53 and F55 as equivalent, and do not interpret an ASTM A182 forging reference as a complete finished-fastener specification.

Where NORSOK qualification is required, verify the relevant manufacturing route and records. A super-duplex UNS designation or visible marking does not prove qualification.

    PURCHASE ORDER CHECKPOINT

    Define it before ordering.

Send the complete requirement for a defined quotation. EMG confirms the supply and inspection scope against your project documents.

    Common questions

    Can I replace 2205 bolts with 2507?

Only after engineering approval. The replacement must satisfy strength, corrosion, dimensions, companion nuts and processing requirements; a more highly alloyed family is not automatic permission to substitute.

Is S32760 the same as 2507?

No. 2507 is UNS S32750. S32760 has a different composition and identity, including copper and tungsten additions.

Do stamped markings prove duplex certification?

No. Markings support identification, but the certificate, heat traceability and agreed inspection records establish acceptance of the supplied components.
