Fasteners for LPG & Gas Distribution

Certified bolting and sealing for LPG storage, filling and reticulation assets — from import terminals and bullet tanks to cylinder filling carousels and gas meter sets.

    OVERVIEW

    Bolting for Flammable Gas Service

LPG and bulk gas distribution assets hold a flammable, pressurised product in close proximity to people. A leaking flange on a bullet tank, a filling carousel manifold, or a tanker loading arm is not a maintenance nuisance — it is a hazardous area incident. Bolting and gasketing on these assets are safety-critical items, and they need to be treated and documented as such.

We supply certified stud bolts, nuts, gaskets and corrosion-protected fasteners to LPG import terminals, bulk storage depots, cylinder filling plants, autogas installations and reticulated gas networks across Australia. Every item is supplied against the applicable ASTM, ASME and Australian Standard, with EN 10204 3.1 material certification and heat number traceability as standard.

Because most Australian LPG infrastructure sits in coastal or semi-coastal locations, external corrosion is the dominant failure mode long before pressure or temperature becomes an issue. We specify coating systems — hot-dip galvanised, zinc-flake and PTFE/Xylan — matched to the actual exposure of the asset, so that flange bolting can still be broken out safely at the next scheduled shutdown.

EMG supplies EN 10204 3.1 certified bolting and gaskets for LPG terminals, bullet tanks and cylinder filling plants across Australia — coated for coastal service and traceable from mill to site.

    INDUSTRY SECTORS

    Where Our Fasteners Are Installed

A closer look at the key sectors within lpg & gas distribution where our fasteners play a critical role in equipment integrity and safety.

    Bulk Storage & Import Terminals

Pressure storage vessels, bullets and spheres carry the highest consequence bolting on any LPG site. Manway, nozzle and valve connections require correctly graded studs, matched nuts and a gasket system rated for LPG service, with documented torque and traceability for the asset file.

    Key Equipment
    • Bullet tanks and LPG spheres
    • Manway and nozzle flange bolting
    • Emergency shut-off and excess flow valves
    • Pump and compressor skids
    • Ship and rail unloading arms

    Cylinder Filling & Decanting Plants

Filling carousels, decant lines and manifolds are high-cycle assets. Bolted joints are broken and remade far more often than on static plant, so thread condition, anti-galling coatings and consistent grade supply matter as much as the base material specification.

    Key Equipment
    • Filling carousels and scales manifolds
    • Decant and transfer pump housings
    • Vapour recovery pipework
    • Cylinder test and requalification rigs
    • Hose reel and loading gantry connections

    Reticulation, Autogas & Distribution

Reticulated gas networks, meter sets and autogas installations combine buried, exposed and enclosed service in a single asset. Fastener selection has to account for soil corrosion, coastal atmosphere and the reality that maintenance access is often limited.

    Key Equipment
    • Gas meter sets and regulator stations
    • Pressure reduction and odorisation skids
    • Buried pipeline flange assemblies
    • Autogas dispenser and tank installations
    • Tanker and delivery vehicle equipment

    FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

    Technical FAQs

What bolting grade is used on LPG bullet tanks and spheres?

    +
ASTM A193 B7 stud bolts with A194 Grade 2H heavy hex nuts are the standard specification for LPG pressure storage flange connections, supplied against AS 1210 for the vessel itself. Where the vessel is in sour or low-temperature service, B7M with 2HM nuts or A320 L7 grades are specified instead. All bolting for pressure-retaining duty should be supplied with EN 10204 3.1 certification and heat number traceability for the asset file.

Which coating should be used for LPG plant in coastal Australian locations?

    +
For exposed flange bolting in coastal atmospheres, hot-dip galvanising to AS/NZS 4680 or a zinc-flake system such as GEOMET 500 provides the longest service life. Where joints are broken frequently — filling carousels, decant manifolds, hose connections — a PTFE or Xylan 1424 coating is preferable because it prevents galling and allows the joint to be broken out cleanly at shutdown.

What gaskets are suitable for LPG service?

    +
Spiral wound gaskets with a 316L winding and flexible graphite filler to ASME B16.20 are the usual choice for LPG flange connections, with Kammprofile gaskets used where joint stability and reusability matter. Soft-cut compressed fibre gaskets are only appropriate on low-pressure ancillary connections. Gasket selection should always be confirmed against the flange rating, service temperature and the operator's own approved materials list.

Can you supply certified fasteners for a scheduled LPG shutdown?

    +
Yes. We supply project bolting packages bagged and tagged per joint, with certification packs collated ahead of the shutdown window, and we hold carbon steel and coated stud bolt stock in Australia for short-notice requirements. For breakdown and emergency response, our RapidBolt division handles urgent bolting supply.

Do you supply to Australian gas distributors and cylinder filling operators?

    +
Yes. We supply LPG terminals, bulk depots, cylinder filling and requalification plants, autogas installations and reticulated gas networks across Australia from our Brisbane base, with global mill sourcing behind it. We work on a project and maintenance supply basis with minimum order quantities — we are not a retail counter.
